Project Overview

The major reason for recreating the website was that both UDIA NSW, and National, required an update to their existing websites. The client sought to improve the user experience for both members as well as the general public. The main aim was to revise the look of both websites and make it simple for users to access an array of information and resources related to urban development. The end product implements interactive pictures and thumbnails that appeal to these targeted users.

User Problems

User Problems

The website for UDIA was visually unappealing and difficult to use for viewers. This reduced user engagement, user retention, and the amount of people taking full advantage of the website. Therefore, UDIA sought to make improvements to the website. EB Pearls came up with a very unique design, while still focusing on easy navigation.

Reviewing existing UDIA websites, we realised that the website lacked proper information architecture and it was not aesthetically pleasing. Outlining the user persona, we defined the user journey and prepared interactive wireframes.

User Experience and Design

The process of the website’s development began with a project workshop. We tried to understand the needs of the client and aligned our idea accordingly. In addition, the website required a lot of modifications and several issues had to be fixed during the process. Many reviews were done, and issues were fixed by identifying contrary expectations early.

Originally, the UDIA website was swarmed with information that confused users. EB Pearls worked with stakeholders of UDIA to carefully re-structure the information and came up with a cleaner and intuitive user interface.

Design Sprint

Design Sprint

During the design sprint, the fixed deadline created a time pressure among the team to get things done. The wireframe was completed in three rounds. Once three rounds were approved we started the design, which was also completed in three rounds. With our talented team of designers and keen UX team, EB Pearls worked together with the client to wisely re-design the UDIA websites to meet the required standards.

Internal Testing

Internal Testing

In order to get feedback and improve further, internal testing was done. After the testing, the most essential feature that we focused on, was easy navigation to get to the desired screen as well as the uniformity in the screens.

Unique Features

  • Visually Appealing: The homepage of the website will captivate any users with the beautiful panorama view. With less use of text, our designers have used more white space so that users can easily find what they are looking for.
  • Simple to Use: If you are looking for anything specific in the UDIA website, you can easily click on buttons like News, Advocacy and Research, Events, Media, and more. For example, if you are looking for Advocacy and Research, click on it and a drop-down option appears, users can then choose from a list of Our Priorities, Submissions, Research, and Stakeholder Engagement.
  • Easy navigation: Since easy navigation was the prime focus during the redesign. Users can enjoy these features on the websites of UDIA National and NSW. If you are looking for news related to the urban industry in Australia, you can simply click on News and search for any news.

We developed the website with simple yet unique features. We have removed all the unnecessary text content and substituted it with more pictures to help the client meet their aim of promoting the achievement of high standards of urban development. With considerate design choices, EB Pearls effectively evolved UDIA’s digital presence to a modern and classy feel.
